We extend a warm welcome to Dr. Joseph Protain as he joins Podiatry Inc.

Dr. Joseph Protain earned his degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2000, a private non-profit university in Kansas City, Missouri. The institution provides undergraduate and graduate degrees in biomedical sciences, health sciences, and allied health professions and is affiliated with the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Returning to Northeast Ohio, Dr. Protain pursued his surgical residency at Cleveland Clinic – South Pointe, a renowned and globally recognized medical center. The clinic offers a highly competitive and selective surgical residency program aimed at shaping the next generation of surgical leaders. Acceptance into the program requires outstanding grades and substantial surgical experience.

Dedicated to staying abreast of the latest trends in vascular surgery and medicine, Dr. Protain is an active member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgery (ACOS) and the American College of Phlebology (ACP).

Dr. Joseph Protain specializes in various advanced vascular treatments, including:

Compression Stockings:

Initiated tight at the ankle, compression stockings gradually alleviate pressure as they ascend the leg. Their purpose is to facilitate venous blood flow back to the heart, effectively limiting swelling. They may also assist in bringing valve leaves together to prevent backward blood flow.

Microphlebectomy:

This procedure involves the application of a numbing solution around the bulging vein area, followed by a small incision to access the problematic vein. A hook is then introduced beneath the skin to bring the bulging vein to the surface for removal. Blood flow is redirected to a healthy, normal vein.

Endovenous Laser Treatment:

Utilizing ultrasound guidance, a laser fiber is carefully introduced into the abnormal vein under local anesthesia. The application of laser energy destroys the vein, resolving the underlying issue. Blood flow is redirected to other healthy veins.

Sclerotherapy:

In this procedure, a sclerosing agent is injected into spider veins, inducing irritation of the inner vein lining. This leads to swelling and adherence of the vein walls, ultimately resulting in the closure of the treated vein.
